The Fisher F19 metal detector is a lightweight, high-frequency VLF detector designed for users who want strong performance in iron-heavy and mineralized ground while maintaining simple, fast operation. Operating at 19 kHz, the F19 is well suited for detecting small, low-conductive targets such as relics and non-ferrous items commonly found in challenging soil conditions across the U.S. Its balanced design and 2.75 lb weight allow for extended hunts without excessive fatigue, making it practical for long sessions in fields, woods, and historic sites.
The F19 offers two primary operating modes—All Metal and Discrimination—giving users the flexibility to prioritize depth and sensitivity or focus on target separation and selectivity. The All Metal mode provides V.C.O. audio response for precise signal interpretation, while Discrimination mode allows users to manage unwanted targets using notch discrimination and V-Break® audio breakpoint control. This helps users tailor audio responses to specific conductivity ranges, which can be especially useful when working through dense iron debris.
Ground conditions can vary significantly from site to site, and the Fisher F19 addresses this with both manual ground balance and computerized Ground Grab® functionality. Users can quickly adapt to mineralized soil and changing conditions, helping maintain stable operation and consistent target response. The Fe3O4 bar graph provides real-time feedback on ground mineralization, allowing users to better understand site conditions and adjust settings accordingly.
Target information is presented through a clear digital display featuring a two-digit numeric Target ID ranging from 1 to 99. While the F19 does not provide a separate target name readout, the numeric ID, signal strength bars, and audio nuances work together to help users make informed dig decisions. Adjustable iron audio volume and Fe-Tone® functionality allow iron targets to remain audible at controlled levels, supporting better target separation without overwhelming the user.
Additional practical features include a non-motion pinpoint mode for more accurate target location, adjustable sensitivity via gain control, and an adjustable backlight with multiple brightness levels for low-light conditions. The detector runs on a single 9V battery and delivers up to 15–20 hours of operation using alkaline batteries. While the control box is not weatherproof, an optional rain cover can be used for added protection during changing conditions.
